Every single person seeks joy — God made us to do so. The problem is not that we seek joy but that too often we seek it in wrong ways. In this psalm we are invited to join the psalmist, and the people of God through the centuries, in praying for joy rooted in God. What we discover is that, even in the midst of tears, we can call out to God expectantly, knowing that one day we will know the fullness of joy because God is for our joy and will one day wipe every tear away.
