It is easy to come to Jesus with wrong expectations, failing to see our real problem and wanting from him things of secondary importance. Jesus’ disciples had spent years with him, listening to him teach, watching him perform miracles, traveling and talking with him, and being with him. Yet in this text we recognize that they failed to really see. And a blind man whose physical eyes don’t work, sees Jesus, crying out to him as the “Son of David” for mercy. Seeing who Jesus is, what he’s done, and what that means leaves us with an invitation to respond in faith, in worship and in lives of discipleship.
