In this passage we encounter again the theme of coming judgment. Jesus highlights the fact that the kind of response he is calling for requires a radical shift of loyalty that will inevitably have a major impact on even the closest of human relationships. Nonetheless, responding to his presence by trusting in him and binding oneself to him is the only reasonable choice to make. And when we see that he has come, not only to announce the coming judgment, but to bear that judgment, our hearts are drawn to do just that — bind ourselves to him through faith.
