As Jesus begins his journey to Jerusalem and the cross, he sends out a group of 72 disciples on a mission similar to that of the Twelve. The nature of the mission is intense, with a message of the Kingdom of God that demands a response that bears eternal consequence. While the religious elite choose their team based on merit, talent, and social standing, Jesus rejoices that the Father selects messengers who are the least, the last, and the lost. And just like the disciples, Jesus invites us onto mission with a victory that is guaranteed because of his success, his faithfulness, and his work on our behalf.
