In this text we fastforward to the time of John's ministry, foretold by the angel Gabriel to John's father, Zechariah. John's ministry would be one of "turning people back to God and to one another," a ministry of reconciliation. In this passage we discover all that is needed for that reconciliation to happen, and the good news is that "all that we need, God gives." We stand in great need, and God in Christ comes to bring his great salvation.
