In this chapter we encounter the sobering end to which rejecting God inevitably leads. The longing of God's heart is to restore and redeem, to show mercy and grace. Persistence in sin, persistent rejection of the one who is truly loving and the source of all goodness will result in a disintegration of our lives that will continue forever. Only Christ can arrest this movement away from all that is good and towards the just consequence of rejecting God and he invites us to respond to his love and mercy and to fix our eyes upon him in whom we find redemption.
