In this passage of scripture, the apostle Paul challenges the wrong thinking of the Corinthian believers. They are contending that it is more "spiritual" to be single and are actually encouraging the dissolution of marriages. Paul will have none of it and challenges their thinking. His argument is that God's call transcends marital status and other social distinctions, essentially making them irrelevant as far as being spiritual goes. Redemption and God's call on our lives means that we can and should live for him in the situation in which we find ourselves.
