Following the salutation that begins the letter, Paul, as was typical for him, follows with a word of thanksgiving. This, however, is more than just a customary letter writing convention. Paul genuinely gives thanks to God while also attempting to redirect the focus of the Corinthians from themselves and their spiritual pride to God and his gracious activity in their lives.
