In this passage the author of Hebrews levels the charge of being spiritually immature at his readers. Rather than demonstrating the maturity that their lives should reflect at this point in their walk with Christ, they appear to be in need of going back to the basics. The author goes on and highlights the danger of apostasy and then calls his readers to diligently imitate the examples of others who have patiently and faithfully remained true to God. The challenge for us as hearers of the text today is to fix our eyes on Jesus, who alone enables us to become mature men and women in him.
