In our return to the Sermon on the Mount we come to a new section that speaks to how disciples of Jesus are to live in the world. What Jesus makes clear with three different illustrations is that our lives will inevitably follow our hearts. What we treasure, what we focus on will shape our lives and reveal who or what we serve. Everyone serves somebody. This is unavoidable. As those in whom the gospel has taken root, our prayer will be, "Lord, transform my affections” so that by his work in our lives, we treasure Christ, fix our eyes on Christ and serve Christ and all lesser things fall away.
