Here we come to what might be the most challenging and most counter-cultural words Jesus speaks in his Sermon on the Mount. He declares that the gospelized are not to resist an evil person. Rather they are to turn the other cheek, surrender more than demanded in court, go the extra mile and give to the one who asks. What we will discover is that at the heart of Jesus’ command is the principle of love, putting the good of the other ahead of self. Only the power of the gospel can shape us to be the kind of people Jesus calls us to be.
